SAMO IS DEAD: a play by Jodi Rabinowitz

Arts student Luke’s excessive idolatry of the late Basquiat bars him from creating his own original works; yet he maintains that he himself is on the verge of greatness – something that he keeps trying to convince local waitress, Beth. University dropout Beth swears she’s fine waiting tables, but her coworker Holly isn’t so sure. Holly is desperate to get out of the cafe, out of her small-town life, and she’ll do anything to make it happen. And all along, SAMO is dead.

A brand new play by 20-year-old playwright Jodi Rabinowitz, SAMO IS DEAD is a recipient of the University of Sydney Union (USU)'s Bright Ideas - USU Grant. Inspired by the life of the tragically infamous artist Jean-Michel Basquiat, this play explores life, art, legacy and the meaning of it all - that is, if there even is one.
